Liverpool travel to Aston Villa on Wednesday, hoping to build on their 2-1 win over Wolves last Sunday and build a 10-point gap to Arsenal in the standings. 

But there were signs of nerves after the break at Anfield, with the Reds failing to attempt a shot in an entire half of a Premier League home match for the very first time. 

Slot, however, said that despite the questions surrounding the squad, he said he will lean on the players who were involved in Liverpool's title success back in 2019-20. 

Of those that still remain from their first Premier League title win in 30 years under Jurgen Klopp, Slot has plenty of experience to turn to in his side.

"We lean a lot on the players. We train with them, we try to prepare them. We have a pre-match meeting to try to prepare them in the best possible way," Slot said. 

"You lean on the players - how much work-rate they want to put in, how well they execute the game plan, how do they adapt to what the other team does?

"I think it helps you if a team or a player has already won something but don't make that too big because you still have to play for it."

"I see it as 13 games to be played and the next game as the most important one. Villa away, like Wolves at home, is again a difficult game," Slot said. 

"They have a great home record, maybe even more when they play in the evening, so we know that is going to be a challenge. 

"But we have quite an OK away record this season. We have done quite OK this season in general as well, so it is a game for everyone to look forward to."

Villa have also won just one of their last 14 Premier League games against Liverpool (D2 L11)hola play, a 7-2 victory at Villa Park in October 2020, but this exact fixture finished 3-3 last season – the Reds haven't failed to win consecutive away league games against the Villans since December 2004.
